Songwriter Sean Garrett says former ‘NSYNC star’s success inspires Bieber’s new project and also dishes on Beyoncé’s album.

Justin Bieber may have declined the chance to join Justin Timberlake’slabel, but according to a songwriter in the know, the former ‘NSYNC crooner is the inspiration for the teen sensation’s upcoming album.

Songwriter Sean “The Pen “Garrett, who has been working with Bieber on the follow-up to the chart-ruling My World 2.0., spoke with Billboard about the direction for the teen superstar’s forthcoming album, saying the project will feature more grown-up fare.

“What we’re trying to do with Justin is to segue him into young adulthood,” Garrett said of the project, which is also slated to feature production from hitmaker Christopher “Tricky” Stewart. “The one great thing about Justin Bieber is the fact that his fans are going to grow with him. So we want all the fans that started out with him to still be intrigued and excited about him, but we want to also stretch out a little bit and make the fans that are 22-23 years old love Justin as well. When Justin Timberlake went from the last album of *N Sync to his first solo album — I want to say [we're aiming for] that level. That’s the bar for the type of song, that level of ‘Cry Me a River,’ big records.”

Garrett, who has crafted records for stars like Chris Brown and Bieber’s mentor Usher, also said he’s hard at work on Beyoncé’s next project. However, the songwriter didn’t divulge too much information, only revealing that he’s “been working with her extremely hard … she’s my favorite.”

While Garrett said the plan for his next outing is to angle Bieber toward a swiftly maturing audience, Bieber himself has refused to categorize his music, insisting to MTV News in December that he’s just focused on creating quality records.

“Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear,” Bieber explained of his hits. “I don’t know, it’s not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn’t say I’m pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it’s just good music,”

Justin Bieber makes a very good point in his latest People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ad, in more ways than one.

In his newest promotional stint for the animal-rights organization, the 16-year-old “Baby” singer directs a digit to the public and implores them to adopt their pets from animal shelters. The ad hammers the point home with the caption, “Animals Can Make U Smile.”

Bieber says of the new ad,

“It’s really important that people adopt. I really encourage going out to an animal shelter or a place where you can get a dog who has been abandoned or doesn’t have a home.”

Sometimes, all someone wants is a shoutout on Twitter. In the cast of one person who had their home featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” this request was a shout-out courtesy of singing sensation Justin Bieber.

On Sunday, Bieber kept up his end of the bargain:

“@KatrinaBrown497 nope i didnt forget about u. Everyone follow Katrina. met her on EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER. she is an incredibly strong person”

So when will we actually see this meeting? That is to be seen, but the episode itself looks like it was filmed back in November. (With that in mind, it should happen at some point later this season.) Then again, since a Bieber appearance generally means good ratings, we could be waiting until one of the critical network “sweeps” periods to see this air

Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, stopped by a chat room on Tuesday to talk with fans about what’s going on in the Bieb’s life. He teased the crowd with a clip from a new song, saying,  “Yes, Justin is working on new music,” adding that the previewed song might find it’s way to the public on Valentine’s Day.

Braun also mentioned that Justin is making use of his connections in the music industry, “He’s been talking to Drake about new music. [Bieber] and Kanye had a call today about a song they’re trying to work on together. Kanye wants to produce a bunch of new songs for the new album. He’s talked with Rascal Flatts. Him and Chris Brown have been sending stuff back and forth to each other.”

While being chatty about Justin’s music, Braun seemed to experience some sort of mental problem when the subject turned to Justin’s love life, rendering him incapable of speaking a name that starts with ‘S’, “Everyone says I’m ignoring a certain issue that you all want to know about. Everybody wants to know something. Here’s what I’m going to tell you. This kid travels a lot and I always told him, I was always like, ‘You shouldn’t be in a relationship unless you can give someone everything.’ I know that him and the person you’re asking about are really close friends and have been for awhile. As far as I know, that’s what they are.”

However, Braun did confess to advising Justin to “stop answering the single question” because it destroys any hope of a private life in the future.

With the release of Never Say Never rapidly approaching, his various music projects, and that “certain issue that you all want to know about,” Justin is geared up to have one busy year.

You’ve probably heard through the grapevine that belieber Ashley Miller committed suicide after learning about Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’ rumoured relationship. Rumour has it that, after a direct message from Justin saying “get out of my business”, the young girl took her own life.

None of this is true. Ashley Miller DID take her life, however, it was in August last year, and it was due to “personal problems” (according to her twitter-friends) – not the rumours above.

Our thoughts are with Ashley’s family and friends.

Justin skyrocketed to stratospheric levels of fame over the past year, so it was only a matter of time before he landed his very own VF photo shoot—complete with a cadre of girlfan extras who can be seen giggling and staring goggle-eyed at the Biebs in pretty much every frame. But in his interview, Justin suggested that his massive following of females might not be just a matter of celebrity.

“Not trying to be arrogant,” he said, “but if I walked down the street and a girl saw me, she might take a look back because maybe I’m good-looking, right?”

Um, maybe? But we’ll never know; the days of getting an objective opinion on Justin’s sex appeal as compared with the average guy are long, loooong gone. And while he seems to have adjusted nicely to a life in the spotlight, he also tells VF that his fame came as a surprise.

“I didn’t know that any of this was really possible,” he said. “I grew up in a really small town with not a lot of money, and I liked singing, but it was just something that was a hobby.”

Now that he does know it’s possible, however, Justin also has big plans: “I want to grow as an artist, as an entertainer, and basically perfect my craft. I want to be the best that I can be.” He also cites Michael Jackson as a major influence, saying, “He was so broad, everybody loved him, and that’s what my goal is—to basically make people happy, to inspire them, and to have everyone root for me.”

Of course, Justin’s already accomplished that goal with pretty much every female human being under the age of 18—but he knows that the dudes will be a tougher sell.

“For younger guys, it’s like [they think] they’re not cool if they come to my concert,” he admitted. “That’ll [change], I think; it’ll happen, maybe when I’m 18.”

For now, JBiebs isn’t resting on his laurels… and launching a last little jab at the haters. Because teenage guys might not be on board the Bieber train just yet…
